About Me

Languages

I recognized early on how vital languages are in life, and have since been committed to widening my knowledge. Born into an international (French-American mainly) community in LA, I speak English and French fluently. As a result of proximity to Latin American culture, Spanish was the next logical step. After several years of studying Spanish at two schools, I am approaching fluency.

GIP Courses

I have taken AP French and AP Spanish Language and Culture. Next year, I hope to further my global education through City of Angels and Globalization and Human Rights.

Global Organizations and Trips

I have had the pleasure of going on a GIP trip to Peru during which I hiked the Inca Trail and visited Cusco, Lima, and smaller towns near Machu Picchu. (The blog for the Peru Trip: http://polygipperu.blogspot.com/).

Another globally focused project I am currently undertaking is my Porter Documentary. This summer I am going to Peru to make a short documentary about the porters of the Inca trail (the people who carry the tents, food, and tourists’ clothes, and move exceptionally fast through the Andes). My goal with this project is to objectively show to the world how incredible this group of people is, and portray them past just their work on the trail and show them as more rounded people. Moreover, this is all inspired from my GIP trip to Peru this past year; I loved the Inca trail and the over all experience of being in such a beautiful environment.

Service

I have been volunteering for VITA/TCE (Website: http://elacc.org/event/volunteer-income-tax-assistance-0209/), an organization that files tax-returns for low-income families in Boyle Heights, and I plan to continue this year and next year. The actual work is in both english and in Spanish and enables me to interact with people from other communities from very different backgrounds. I think the global aspect of this work comes from the fact that it is a primarily Latin American community, and this connection and impact I am able to make not only is beneficial to others but helps me broaden my horizons.

Capstone Project

I am examining the impact of the 2020 BLM surge and the pandemic on my generation.
