Grant Proposal and Miry's List

The other day, the Poly community was lucky enough to have two of its very own Global Scholars, Saya D. and Luisa B., talk about their Grant Proposal Project. Both found an interest in the refugee crisis recently as Saya volunteered filling out refugee applications for Mayor Eric Garcetti's office of Immigrant Affairs, and Luisa went on a Global Initiatives trip to the US-Mexico Border. Their combined interest served as the motive behind their proposal: hosting a large dinner for refugee families.

However, due to the Coronavirus, Saya and Luisa have reallocated their grant money to buying computers for families. The pair told our community about the nuances of what the refugee process is like and how they are adapting to the Coronavirus. Because not every community is able to afford the luxuries of a sustainable social distancing experience, the immigrants and refugees are disproportionately members of front line jobs. Saya and Luisa then detailed that we could help by donating to Miry's List in order to provide some of these struggling families with electronics in order for the children to attend school. Additionally, they spoke on the fact that many of these families feel especially isolated during this time.
